This lot farmed by the multiple Cup of Excellence award-winning Gatare community is bright and juicy, with an all-day drinkable cup profile. It shines especially as a batch brew, or as a single origin espresso, highlighting the complex acidity.

Origin: Farmers in the Gatara commune local to Mbirizi washing station, Kayanza province, Burundi

Our favorite coffees from Burundi can be explosively juicy and sweet, with a hint of contrasting almost savory notes that make them so memorable in the cup. This lot of mixed varietals, both heirloom and cultivars, is meticulously harvested and sorted for ripe cherry, and processed using modern techniques. Mbirizi’s station manager, born and raised in Kayanza, pays farmers more than the government minimum in order to encourage them to keep growing specialty coffee, and this encouragement leads to a greater attention to detail, and we find an especially clean cup.
